This hiking tour in Moorea will take you to the heart of the Haapiti area. You will conquer Mount Mata Ara, at some 380 meters above sea level. Expect exceptional views of the lagoon and the island’s interior. Your guide will also share his knowledge of Moorea and its legends. This hike is quite physical and difficult and is only suitable for those who are used to mountain walks.

Program and Itinerary

Meet on the West Coast

On the morning of the expedition, you will be picked up from your hotel or guesthouse at around 7.15 am. You will meet your guide in the town of Haapiti, located on the west coast of the island. The tour starts shortly before 8:00 am, to avoid the tropical heat.

Off the Beaten Path

The access to the Uufau valley is through private land that you can only cross with the permission of the owners. You will be truly off the beaten track! The flora seems even more intense than on the rest of the island. Here, the rainforest seems to have never known any human activity. Expect a complete immersion in contact with nature.

Mount Mara Ara

The purpose of this hiking tour in Moorea will be to reach the summit of Mount Mara Ara. Literally, its name means “the one who watches”. In fact, the rocky mount takes the shape of a serious head that a crown surrounds. Impressive figure that you will have to climb patiently from the top of its 380 m. The ground can sometimes be steep. Beware of vertigo!

Return

The descent is made with caution and you will be back in Haapiti shortly after 12:00 pm. You will then be driven back to your accommodation. Don’t forget to thank your guide: he will have made you discover Moorea, its culture and its landscapes as you could never imagine!
